INFORMATION FOR ATTENDEES

Where is it?

This years ORSNZ Conference is being held at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. The main conference venue is the Arts Lecture Block, Rooms A2 and A3. A map is enclosed showing the conference venue.

What's Happening?

As with most conferences there are a lot of things happening. Please take note of when things are on.

Key Note Addresses

This year we have two keynote addresses:

  1. Professor Clay Whybark, Director of the Global Manufacturing Research Centre, University of North Carolina who will be speaking on the Evolving Role of OR in both academia and within industry.
  2. Graham Mills CSIRO Division of Mathematics and Statistics, who will be talking of the role OR has been taking in some recent applications in Australia.

Keynote Addresses will be held just before lunch on both days of the conference.

Other Papers

The presentation of papers will be run in parallel sessions except for the key note address sessions and the Young Partitioner Prize Session. A list of all the sessions and paper presentations is attached for you to be able to plan which sessions you wish to attend.

Preconference Registration and Social

The conference programme starts with a social/registration evening on Wednesday 29th August at the University Staff Club on Ilam Road (see the enclosed Map) from 7:00pm - 9:30pm. This will enable you to register for the conference as well as meet up with old friends and foes before the conference begins.

Conference

The 32nd ORSNZ Conference starts at 8:00am with a light breakfast in the Foyer of the Arts Lecture Block, outside the conference venue. Croissants, Danish pastries and muffins are on the menu along with Fruit Juice, Tea and Coffee. The conference will begin at 8:50am with the opening of the conference in room A2.

The first of the parallel sessions will begin at 9:10.

Young Practitioner Prize

A special session for young practitioners will be held straight after lunch, between 1:00-3:30pm. A record seven young practitioners have entered this year's competition.

ORSNZ Annual General Meeting

Always a favourite! The ORSNZ Annual General Meeting will be held after the last session of the first day between 5:00-6:00pm

Conference Banquet

This years banquet is to held at the Newbury Lodge, 15 Newbury Street, Opawa, Christchurch. Come and experience the elegance of a traditional Canterbury homestead along with exquisite Canterbury cuisine.

The conference banquet includes a pre-dinner drink, a full 3 course meal, all drinks with you meal and tea and coffee.

Pre-dinner drinks will be available from 6:30pm. Guests are asked to be seated by 7:30pm.

Banquet tickets are included with all full fare conference registrations and for Young Practitioner Prize participants. Tickets for guests or student participants may be purchased with your registration for $50 pp. If you wish to purchase extra tickets subsequent to registration, you may do so by sending your payment to the conference secretary.

Other Opportunities

For those of you who have a bit of time after the conference, you will be able to enjoy many of the attractions Canterbury has to offer including: Skiing, Gondola Rides, the Casino, the Antarctic Centre, Arts and Crafts, Museums, Art Galleries, etc. More information on these and other attractions will be included in your conference pack.

Hostels

For those who have registered for hostel accommodation, this will be provided at:

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be in writing. Those Received after the 1st August will incur a $20 administration fee. No refunds will be made after the 19th August 1996.

Insurance

All insurance is the responsibility of the registrants. Neither the ORSNZ or the University of Canterbury take any responsibility for death, illness, injury or financial loss by any person attending the conference whatever the cause.
