ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

The 33rd Annual Conference of the Operational Research Society of New Zealand ( ORSNZ ) will be held at the  University of Auckland  on the 31st of August and 1st of September 1998. The conference is intended to bring together operational research workers from a wide range of interest groups, ranging from those involved in academic research to practitioners in local industry.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

There will be two keynote speakers visiting from overseas. Details of these will be announced closer to the date.

VENUE

All sessions will be held in rooms of the University of Auckland. It is intended to hold two parallel session streams.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The conference welcomes submissions of paper abstracts from interested participants. Submissions in plain text (or LaTeX) may be Emailed to  [email protected]  or posted to the address given below. The closing date for acceptance of abstracts (of up to 300 words) is 1st May, 1998. Authors of papers will be notified by the Programme Committee regarding acceptance of their papers at the Conference by 15th May, 1998. Authors of accepted papers will be required to submit a full-length paper (up to 10 single-space typed pages) for publication in the Conference Proceedings which is issued to all ORSNZ members. Authors are also encouraged to submit postscript (.ps) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) versions of their papers for inclusion in a new conference archive on the ORSNZ Web site. The deadline for submission of full papers is 15 July 1998. Guidelines on the layout of papers and submission of electronic versions will be sent at the time of acceptance. Authors will have about 25 minutes to present their paper at the Conference.

PRINTED & ONLINE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

All conference attendees and ORSNZ members are entitled to a copy of the conference proceedings. As part of a new initiative, authors are being encouraged to submit electronic copies of their papers which will be made available to ORSNZ members under the ORSNZ Web Pages.

REGISTRATION FORMS

Registration forms will be posted with the preliminary conference programme on 20 May.

RECREATIONAL PROGRAMME

The conference will be opened with an informal social gathering at the University of Auckland on Sunday 30 August. There will be a conference banquet on the evening of Monday 31st August. Information on the City of Auckland and activities you can pursue is available from the following sources.

TRAVEL GRANTS FOR STUDENT SPEAKERS

Students who are speaking at the conference are eligible for travel grants in aid if traveling from outside Auckland. Applicants for these travel grants are asked to note this information on their abstract submission.

YOUNG PRACTITIONER PRIZES

Conference speakers under the age of 25 on 1 September 1998 may enter the Young Practitioner's Paper Prize. In past years, 3 prizes have been offered totaling $1000. All student entrants to the Young Practitoner Prize are also entitled to a complimentary banquet ticket with their registration. The written papers submitted by entrants must be solely authored. Competitors should include a signed declaration of their eligibility to enter this prize with their paper submission.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation at commercial rates is available close to the University. The local  youth hostel  (18 Liverpool St, about 10 minutes walk; ph (09)309-2802; fax (09)373-5083) offers double rooms at $26/person (including GST), quad rooms for $23/person, with a $4 discount for members. The Grafton Oaks Hotel (121 Grafton Rd; about 10 minutes walk; ph (09)309 0167; fax (09)377 5962) charges $112.50 (including GST) for a double or twin room. Booking of these may be made on the registration form with full payment required by 15 July 1998. No accommodation is available within the University hostels at this time of year.

Conference entry fee for non ORSNZ member $205 $90
Conference entry and ORSNZ membership $220 $90

A late fee of $20 applies to all registrations received after 1 August.

Regular registration includes the conference banquet. The banquet is not included in the student registration. Additional tickets for the banquet may be purchased for approximately $50.00 per person.

Conference proceedings are now included as part of the ORSNZ membership package, and so the conference charges for members have been reduced to take this into account.
