The construction of optimal or near optimal statistical designs

David Whitaker, University of Waikato

Abstract:

The paper will outline the design construction problem and

illustrate how it can be represented as a non-linear zero-one

programme. Attempts to find optimum solutions to this problem using

non-linear programming packages (LINGO, MINOS, etc) have only been

moderately successful for small designs, so the paper discusses how a modified

form of simulated annealing can be used in to construct larger

optimal or near optimal designs with quite complicated complicated design

structures.
